Since most Marvel Snapshot (Free) updates that tweak card stats or attributes are a reaction to the current state of the meta, and it’s rare to see any actual themes pop up within it. This is especially true for over-the-air (OTA) updates, as they tend to be quick bandaids in nature. Well friends, we have something interesting this time. It seems the folks at developer Second Evening have decided to lend a helping hand to an entire team of heroes that have been stuck in trouble for too long. Let’s see what’s new!
So yes, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. You’ll see them pop up occasionally, but not that often. There is a theme to their abilities, and if you can predict where your opponent will play and play in the same position, their abilities become even more powerful. The thing is, even if you think you know, it’s still a risk. In most cases, the benefits are not worth the risks. So, the polish has arrived.
Let us become one. Rocket Raccoon, 1 cost 2 power, +2 power boost if your opponent plays a card in the same position this turn, now costs 1 cost 1 power, +4 boost. Star-Lord retains his base attributes, but his abilities gain one point and now provide a +4 Strength buff. Groot went from 3 cost 4 strength to 3 cost 3 strength, but his ability gained some points and now also gives him a +4 buff. Drax follows suit, going from 4 cost 6 strength to 4 cost 5 strength, but now provides a +4 strength buff instead of +2. Finally, Gamora flips the script and gains a bit of power in her base stat, going from 5 cost 7 power to 5 cost 8 power, but loses a bit in her buff, bringing it down to +4. Will this help the Guardians see more games? We’ll see.
Beyond that team, there are a few other bits and pieces worth keeping an eye on. Thanos’ nerfs continue, with the Mind Stone going from 1 cost 1 power to 2 cost 1 power. interesting. Psylocke was also affected by this, and her recent buffs were restored. She is now back to 2-Cost 1-Power, but her abilities remain the same. Will this be enough to slow down the Mad Titan? Probably not, so I suspect we’ll see more adjustments over time.
On the happier side of Marvel Universe, Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock both got some shiny little tweaks. Captain Marvel went from 4 cost and 4 power to 4 cost and 5 power. It’s just a little power, but with her abilities, everything can change. Adam Warlock also gets an extra piece of the pie, going from 5 cost 4 power to 5 cost 5 power. I still don’t know what Second Dinner thought of the previous changes to this card, and I don’t even know where he fits in now.
Abandonment has been huge lately, and developers have taken notice. This is not good news for our friend Apocalypse, who will go from 6 cost 8 power to 6 cost 6 power. His abilities will remain the same for now, and I doubt this will result in him being shuffled out of any decks, but it may push discard players more toward Hela’s side. Again, we’ll have to wait and see.
That’s what’s changed in this update. Personally, this deck doesn’t conflict too much with my usual decks. What do you think of these changes? Now that the Guardians are slightly stronger, will you give it a try? Or are they still on the bench? Let us know in the comments!
