Alaska lawmakers push for internet funding for rural schools ahead of federal deadline Home Page

Lawmakers in Juneau are racing to get funding for faster internet for rural Alaska schools.

House members just passed House Bill 193. The bill would provide rural schools with up to nearly $40 million in state aid, matching federal funds, to improve their internet service, the Alaska Beacon reported.

March 27 is the federal deadline for districts to apply for this funding. That means the Senate and the governor have just days to pass the bill.
