As seen at the 2023 AEW Worlds End PPV event, Samoa Joe defeated MJF to become the new World Champion. MJF has not appeared on AEW TV since the PPV, and his profile was removed from AEW’s roster page in January. Internet speculation about MJF’s status in AEW has resurfaced this week as the merchandise page on ShopAEW.com appears to have been taken down.
Regarding MJF’s status, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following…
“He was unable to play due to a serious shoulder injury. Other than that, he did keep his condition as private as possible.”
Fightful.com’s Sean Ross Sapp also commented on MJF’s status…
“Still rehabbing and I know some things are progressing slower than they expected but as far as I know he was always planning on taking some time off anyway. I don’t know if that was when the injury started happening but in A month after the World’s End pay-per-view, it’s clear he’s going to be taking quite a break.
In January, AEW president Tony Khan said “If the contract situation allows, I hope MJF can join AEW in the future.” When asked about MJF’s status in the company.
MJF has been removed from the AEW roster page and his merchandise has been removed from the AEW store.
