If a performer’s voice has been digitally altered to a foreign language and the performance is used, the performer will be eligible for “all applicable remainders.”
Excluding artificial intelligence, the minimum wage will increase by 7% (retroactive to July 1, 2023), with a 4% increase in the second year and a 3.5% increase in the third year. Modifications to SVOD’s high-budget residual content (domestic and foreign) in last year’s SAG-AFTRA TV/Drama agreement have been fully implemented, with both Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth already considered contractual holidays. Finally, unions can request up to two meetings per year with the AMPTP and studios to discuss paying performers on time.
“This agreement is based on the feedback we received from the members responsible for these contracts, which remains a focus of the bargaining committee throughout the negotiation process. We are proud to have reached an agreement that achieves significant wins in these areas,” TV Animation said negotiating co-chairs Bob Bergen and David Jolliffe. “This is the first SAG-AFTRA animation dubbing contract and is designed to prevent misuse of artificial intelligence.”
Lead negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland added: “This contract represents a meaningful step forward in our efforts to expand AI protections. The contract provides protection in areas such as foreign residuals, high-budget SVOD productions, overdue payments and more. Important new provisions. I’m pleased we were able to achieve these significant results without a shutdown.”
Labor negotiations in the entertainment industry are not over yet.
