Even Amazon’s Spring Sale Day can’t change the price of the iPhone Pro, but regular models of the iPhone 14 and 15 generations are discounted by up to £150.
The iPhone 15 is smaller than most smartphones, but the Apple A16 chipset and the company’s long-term software support mean it’s capable. While the battery capacity isn’t huge, its 13 hours and 20 hours of active use score is better than many flagships.
The iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch display, which is the same size as the 15 Pro Max, although it’s a 60Hz LTPS panel. This generation features a dynamic island for a more modern look, and the 48MP main camera offers some in-sensor zoom (a dedicated zoom lens is reserved for the pros).
Did we mention the 15 Series has a USB-C port (v2.0 for data transfer only, but it does have DisplayPort). If you can live without these things, or even if you don’t want to replace all your Lightning cables, the iPhone 14 is at least £100 cheaper than the 15.
Likewise, the iPhone 14 Plus is at least £100 cheaper than its successor, and up to £140 cheaper in the 256GB model.
You might want to pick up some protective cases for your new phone. With the launch of the iPhone 15 series, Apple no longer uses official leather cases and replaces them with FineWoven cases. They don’t last as long as leather cases, though, so you may want to use silicone.
The iPhone 14 generation is Apple’s last iPhone to come with a leather case, but of course you can also opt for a silicone case.
The feature gap between the Apple Watch Series 8 and Series 9 is even smaller than the iPhone 14 to 15. The Apple S9 chip helps improve battery life, and storage space is doubled to 64GB. A potentially more important change is that the new display has a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, whereas the Series 9 display is only half as bright. This makes a real difference on a sunny day. The Series 8 is cheaper, though, and the Series 10 should be released this fall.
Finally, here’s a wildcard – the price of Meta Quest 2 is down to £200. It’s not as powerful as the Quest 3, but it costs less than half as much. This is a good way to get started with VR, as the headsets are popular and widely supported by games. We’d like to link the Apple Vision Pro, but let’s just say that adding an extra zero isn’t enough to cover the price (the Vision Pro isn’t even officially available in the UK yet).
