Amazon’s spring sale brings deep discounts on new and used smartphones. We’ve picked out some flagships, but some mid-range options offer unbeatable value for money.
OnePlus 12 showcases the prowess of its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on a 6.82-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution. The chip is also responsible for Hasselblad-branded cameras – a 50MP main camera (1/1.43”, OIS), a 64MP 3x telephoto and a 48MP ultra-wide angle (114°). The phone’s large 5,400mAh battery charges super fast and is wired The charging power is 100W and the wireless charging power is 50W.
Is it finally time to make the switch to foldable phones? Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is discounted up to 39%. To be fair, that’s probably because a new model is on the way. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a bit older, but it’s still fast, and you get a beautiful 6.9-inch 165Hz LTPO display that fits into a compact package. When closed, you have access to the 3.6-inch 144Hz cover display.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 comes with the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (and is the enhanced version “for Galaxy”), but it costs 120 euros more and will itself be replaced soon. Additionally, the 6.7-inch 120Hz display inside is not an LTPO panel, but at least this generation has an available 3.4-inch cover display.
Remember Z Flip4? Its display is as small as the one on the Motorola Razr 40. To be fair, the regular Razr costs just €600, but going down to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 might not be attractive to some – you might be willing to pay €500. 130 premium to get the Ultra.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is a strange chip – it’s far more powerful than the 7 Gen 3 that was supposed to replace it. Poco F5 costs just €320 (with 12GB RAM and 256GB boot storage).
The Poco F5 Pro is also an interesting offer – Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 for 400 euros (also with 12/256GB of RAM). The Pro model also upgrades the 6.67-inch 12-bit AMOLED display from FHD+ resolution (both 120Hz) to a QHD+ panel. The cameras are the same (64+8MP) and the battery on the Pro is 160mAh larger at 5,160mAh.
The Poco X6 Pro is another regular/pro pairing. It comes with Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset and a 6.67-inch 12-bit 120Hz display that eliminates the difference between FHD+ and QHD+. The 8/256GB model costs €310, so you might be leaning towards the Poco F5.
The regular Poco X6 uses Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, which is weaker than both the 7+ Gen 2 and 7 Gen 3. This processor also uses slower storage, UFS 2.2 and 4.0. At 260 euros cheaper, it’s up to you whether it’s worth the savings.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro with the same 7s Gen 2 chip (also paired with UFS 2.2 storage) costs 340 euros. To be fair, a lot of the budget was spent on the 200MP main camera.
You can buy the Redmi Note 13 Pro+, which uses the better Dimensity 7200 Ultra (and UFS 3.1 storage), but if your price goes up to 400 euros, you can also go for the Poco F5 Pro.
Let’s take a look at some of the lower prices. The Samsung Galaxy A25 won’t win any awards for the speed of its Exynos 1280, but it’s a decent chip. You also get a microSD slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 4 OS updates and 5 years of security patches for an impressive price range. The price of 250 euros is not bad, although we could do without the notch on the 6.5-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display.
We know it’s old, but the Motorola Edge 30 Neo offers a 6.28-inch 120Hz OLED display and 5G connectivity (even though it’s powered by the venerable Snapdragon 695), as well as a 64MP main camera with OIS and a 13MP ultrawide, and 68W wired and 5W wireless charging . The price is 210 euros and comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The Moto Edge 40 Neo is newer (last September) and has been upgraded with the Dimensity 7030, a 50MP main camera with a larger 1/1.5-inch sensor (1.0μm pixels vs. 0.7μm, still with OIS) and 4K video Recording function. The screen has grown to 6.55 inches (120Hz FHD+ OLED), but the battery has lost basic wireless charging capabilities (many people charge overnight, so 5W is enough).
Finally, some smartwatches. The difference between the small and large sizes of Samsung Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic is about 100 euros. The Classic model is slightly larger due to the unique rotating bezel.
If you want a big watch at a cheap price, check out the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. It’s older and doesn’t have a rotating bezel, but you can get the LTE model for less than the Bluetooth Watch6 Classic. Note that the Pro has a titanium frame instead of stainless steel, so it’s lighter than the Classic (46.5 grams vs. 59 grams) despite being roughly the same size. Although the battery is also larger, 590mAh vs 425mAh.
