Thanks to ARPA funding, more than 500 homes in Tallapoosa County will have high-speed Internet access.
On Tuesday, Spectrum announced it has been awarded more than $3.2 million in Alabama Capital Projects Fund grants to provide gigabit high-speed Internet access to more than 500 homes and small businesses in the county. Including state funding, the total project investment is more than $4.7 million, including nearly $1.5 million from Spectrum.
“All of our communities, whether they are dense cities or remote farms, need access to fast and consistent internet,” said State Senator Jay Hovey. “The State of Alabama has provided grant funding to Spectrum to help expand its network in Tallapoosa County, an infrastructure investment that will drive success for residents.”
The grant is one of 23 awarded to Spectrum to expand fiber broadband infrastructure to areas of the state that currently lack high-speed connectivity. These grants will provide broadband service to nearly 21,000 homes and small businesses in Alabama.
“Every aspect of today’s life requires reliable connectivity—from schools to health care to social events,” said State Rep. Ed Oliver. “I am pleased that Spectrum has received an ARPA grant to expand its network infrastructure in Tallapoosa County and provide residents with the connectivity they need and deserve.”
The Alabama Capital Projects Fund grant further expands Spectrum’s rural buildout program, which centers on the company’s approximately $5 billion investment in unserved rural communities, including the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) )’s auction of more than 1 billion won. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to 1.3 million customer locations in 24 states.
