Social media users accused her of giving a bad impression to India.
The vlogger traveled to Delhi, Agra, Mumbai and Kerala.
The video begins with Tara warning about the dangers and pollution in Delhi. She then shared her experience of visiting the Taj Mahal. She also recommends wearing white shoes as tuk-tuks can easily run over them.
Later in the video, she talks about slum tour In Mumbai, she said it was her favorite because the owner was “respectful”. The video ends with her visit to Kerala, which she describes as “truly magical”.
Once the video went viral, many netizens criticized the vlogger for his “slum tour.” One user said: “Why are they so obsessed with poverty in India? (sic)“.
Another commented: “Really, is this all you have to show about India? Yes, everything is overloaded, culture, growth, garbage. You will find extremes everywhere, extremely developed cities and extreme mismanagement. But you know there are two sides to this coin of developing and growing countries (sic).“
One user also said, “But there is no interesting culture like other countries and no racism. We are happy with the ghettos and kind people(sic).“
“There are a lot of slum tours that take you into Dharavi and show you their micro-industries: leather goods, plastic recycling, textiles,” another user noted. “God I’m so tired of white people’s obsession with showing poverty in india, (sic)” wrote another.
Nonetheless, some users also supported her views on India. One user commented: “I live in India and your observation is correct. Our infrastructure is woefully lacking; they dig the same road over and over again for pipeline construction. (sic)”
Tara reportedly visited India last year.
