Blizzard held a developer update livestream with game director Aaron Keller, who provided new information on how to proceed Overwatch 2 will change its release pipeline. This includes addressing one of the biggest complaints surrounding the hero shooter sequel: the new heroes will now be available to all players for free, without having to purchase a battle pass for each season, like in the first game.

This change will be implemented in Season 10, which will introduce the new damage hero Venture (as well as Overwatchof first non-binary character).they will be the first Overwatch 2 The hero will be free for all players at launch. This change will be retroactive to previous heroes, meaning all heroes Overwatch 2 Heroes from Sojourn to Mauga will be available to all players for free.

Being a hero isn’t the only thing Overwatch 2 is being made more accessible to all players. mythical skin, the customizable hero appearance that’s often served as the final reward at the end of a season battle pass, is getting its own store tab in the game’s store. This will give players access to Mythic skins from previous seasons, even if they missed them in the Battle Pass. Keller said the team will have more information on “how it works,” but from the images shown during the demo, it looks like it might not be as simple as paying to unlock the skin and its full customization options . Each skin has a “level” that can be unlocked in some way. We’ll know more as we get closer to the end of the season on April 16th.

Keller talks extensively about how Overwatch 2 Will handle the map moving forward. Some of them are pretty standard stuff, like releasing a new push mode A map called Runasapi in Season 11 gives you a glimpse Ilari’s backstory. Two more maps are planned for 2024 for the new Clash mode, with details detailed during the team’s meeting BlizzCon 2023 Demo. One will be available during Season 10 as part of a limited-time game test. But in addition to new maps, Keller also talked about plans to redesign old maps, similar to what the team recently did with Junkertown. Colosseo will be reworked in Season 11, and then sometime after Season 12, Blizzard will do a season-long map rework instead of releasing a new map. The map list hasn’t been finalized yet, but Keller singled out Dorado, Royal Circuit, Havana, and Numbani as maps that could see changes.
