A man from suburban Kansas City has been falsely accused in social media posts of being the mass shooter at last month’s Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade. Now the man has reportedly filed a defamation lawsuit against Tennessee Republican Congressman Tim Burchett, who helped spread the inaccurate claim. Korea Central Television.
Rep. Burchett shared a photo of Denton Loudermill on X with the caption: “One of the shooters at the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade has been identified as an illegal alien.”
In addition to falsely suggesting that Loudermire was involved in the Feb. 14 shooting, Burchett called him an “illegal alien,” another completely untrue statement. After the chaos surrounding the shooting, Loudermire was trying to leave the parade area and tried to hide behind a police cordon, according to his lawsuit.Loudermire was not charged or subpoenaed; brief detentionbut photos of him in handcuffs began circulating online, along with a sinister narrative.
Five days after his initial tweet, Rep. Burchett deleted the tweet and blamed “incorrect news reports” as the source of his information. But he did not retract his claim that Loudermire was one of the gunmen.
“I note that in one of my previous posts, one of the shooters was identified as an illegal alien. This was based on multiple incorrect news reports. I have since deleted the post,” Burchett Tweet.
Burchett blamed “news reports,” but no reputable news outlet claimed that the man in the photo was an illegal immigrant, and no one had been arrested in connection with the shooting.This is all nonsense peddled by far right X accounts like end awakeningan anonymous account popular with the owner of Elon Musk.
Rep. Burchett appears to get his “news” from X accounts, who have no problem spreading disinformation that fits their narrative.
In fact, many of the Mo used to insist that all mass shooters must be born in a foreign country. The fictional “Sahil Omar” has reportedly been charged with other crimes, including mass shootings in Las Vegas and Prague. British Broadcasting Corporation.
Loudermire’s lawsuit seeks $75,000 in damages from Rep. Burchett, but it’s unclear whether he will sue others who spread false claims on social media, KCTV reported.
“Plaintiffs were wrongly identified as ‘illegal aliens’ and ‘shooters,’ resulting in [Loudermill] The lawsuit alleges that in Kansas, he received death threats and suffered emotional distress from being exposed to public view, and more specifically, experienced periods of anxiety, agitation and disrupted sleep, which damages may last into the future. “The Defendants’ conduct and conduct caused the Plaintiff to suffer harm and actual harm, including mental anguish, insomnia, anxiety and agitation… as well as emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, indignity and inconvenience.”
