Video of tiger majestically leaping across river in Sunderbans shocks internet

This video shows a tiger walking towards a river in Sundarban National Park.

The tiger is a rare and elusive animal, which is why the excitement of spotting a tiger in its natural habitat is unparalleled. Seeing a tiger in the wild is always a mesmerizing and once-in-a-lifetime experience, but witnessing a big cat leap into the air is an even more extraordinary experience. Now, a stunning video of a tiger leaping through a stream of water is winning hearts all over the internet. Indian Railways Accounts Service (IRAS) officer Ananth Rupanagudi shared this fascinating video on X (formerly Twitter).

The video begins with a tiger walking towards a river in Sundarban National Park in West Bengal. After a few seconds, it jumped suddenly and landed on the other side of the river. Sharing the video on the microblogging site, Mr Rupanagudi wrote: “Leaping over 20 feet from standing position in Sunderbans, once in a lifetime shot! I know this video has gone viral, But people can’t get enough of it!”

The video was originally shared on Instagram by wildlife photographer Harshal Malvankar. It has amassed over 6 million views and received a variety of reactions from social media users.

In response, one user wrote: “Tigers mind their own business and are usually solitary hunters. So not the king of the jungle. But they are the strongest and most skilled in the cat kingdom. You can look it up. BTW , captured so well.”

“Agility and flexibility are the best,” commented another. A third said: “Wow, never seen anything like this before, so special.” Another wrote: “Imagine how powerful those legs would have to be to push 150- Animals over 200kg push further.”

“Such a stunning capture! Sunderban is truly a unique gem. Enjoyed every moment of this extraordinary experience,” one user shared. “Majestic cat!! These skills are also useful in B’luru Majestic,” another user reacted.

Meanwhile, last month, another video of a tiger went viral on social media. This video captured by wildlife photographer Deep Kathikar shows a tiger picking up a plastic bottle from a water hole in Tadoba National Park in Maharashtra. According to Mr. Kathikar, the tiger in the video is the cub of tigress Bhanuskhindi from Ramdegi Hills and the video was shot in December 2023. The video left internet users heartbroken and worried, with some calling the situation “shocking”.
