Samsung will begin rolling out its major One UI 6.1 update on Thursday (March 28), bringing its artificial intelligence software to US users.
According to a press release, owners of previous-generation Samsung devices should start preparing to download and install the upcoming update. The Korean OEM says the update is coming to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Fold 5, and Tab S9 series. This update brings the experience of these previous-generation devices closer to the Galaxy S24 series.
One UI 6.1 fully adopts the company’s Galaxy AI software to provide a variety of device functions. What kicks off the update is Google’s “Search Circle.” Users can search based on anything on their Android device without switching to Chrome or other Google-created apps.
Users of previous generation devices can now circle, doodle, highlight or click items in images to find more information via Google Search. Additionally, you can write your own queries to help guide your search.
Real-time translation is another feature brought by One UI 6.1, allowing users to experience real-time translation during calls.
The arrival of Chat Assist and Samsung’s Generative Edit brings some useful features for users of its Galaxy devices. The former, available through Samsung Keyboard, helps users adjust the “message tone” and translate messages in 13 languages. The arrival of Generative Edit is said to help users “customize their photos” with resizing, deletion and other AI tools for image enhancement.
Galaxy AI via One UI 6.1 will start rolling out on March 28 on the aforementioned previous-generation devices. Samsung said the update will be rolling out on devices sold through multiple carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and USCC.
In addition, devices purchased through Amazon, Best Buy, and others will also receive the update.
Samsung reiterated in its press release that some Galaxy AI features, such as Circle Search, require an internet connection. The company also informed users that its Galaxy AI features are free, but it expects to start charging in 2026.
