long story short
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 appear on the regulatory list along with Samsung’s 25W wired charger.
- This suggests that Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone may not receive any meaningful charging upgrades this year.
The Samsung Galaxy Z foldable phones may not be the most advanced foldable phones available today, but they are undoubtedly the most popular. Other Android OEMs have done well to compete with Samsung, offering better specs on their clamshell and foldable devices. If you were hoping Samsung would turn things around this year, you might have to wait a while, as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 appear to be sticking to 25W charging again.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have been spotted My smart price 3C certification is in progress. These regulatory listings show that the Fold 6 with model number SM-F9560 and the Flip 6 with model number SM-F7410 will support Samsung’s EP-TA800 charger.
While the TA800 charger is very reliable and has been used by Samsung for many years, its charging power is limited to 25W. The regulatory listing is a strong clue that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be stuck on 25W wired charging for another year. While it’s not mentioned in this listing, we don’t expect Samsung to include a charger in the box this year either.
25W charging for a top flagship foldable phone in 2024 is simply embarrassing. Samsung, Apple and Google have been very stubborn about upgrading their phones to charge faster. In comparison, Chinese OEMs and others such as Asus have launched 65W+ fast charging on their flagships. We’ve seen phones come with 150W wired charging; even budget phones come with 100W charging (and there are quite a few chargers included in the box).
Samsung’s fastest charging phone is the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which charges at 45W, but charges as slowly as molasses compared to competing flagship phones. The new vivo X Fold 3 is a book-style foldable phone released in 2024. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, and is thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 (and possibly Z Fold 6).
Most phones I’ve used outside of Apple, Google, and Samsung can usually be fully charged in 20-30 minutes, while phones from those three companies can take 60-90 minutes, depending on the phone. The differences are stark and frustrating, and there’s no denying that these three companies are currently holding back the industry, much to the detriment of consumers.
We hope Samsung looks around and adopts faster charging technology from its competitors. While we don’t have high hopes for better charging on the Fold 6 and Flip 6, we’re hoping the Galaxy S25 series will get some meaningful upgrades in this area.
