How to fix RCS messages not sending on Google Messages

Google’s goal for everyone to adopt RCS messaging is to ensure a consistent experience across all messaging platforms. For the most part, the effort was successful, but Google Messages and RCS chat still have occasional issues.

Rich Communication Services, better known as RCS, makes possible things we now take for granted, such as read receipts and typing indicators in Google Messages. If these features are suddenly lost, it may be an issue with RCS, especially if you have recently replaced your device.

In the US, all major phone carriers support RCS – you just need to install the Google Messages app to access it – so there’s no reason why your Android device shouldn’t support it, unless your device is very old (RCS messages are only compatible with Android 5 and later versions). If you’re having trouble sending RCS messages using Google Messages, here are some common fixes you can try.

1 Make sure RCS chat is enabled

Check app settings in Google Messages

First, make sure RCS chat is enabled. It’s important to note that everyone in the conversation must have RCS enabled for this to work properly.

1. Open the Messages app and tap your contour In the upper right corner.
2. tap Message settings.
3. tap RCS cat.If you don’t see it, tap Chat function.
4. You can check whether RCS chat is enabled at the top of the menu.

Sending RCS messages requires mobile data or a Wi-Fi connection, so if you hit your mobile plan’s data limit, you can send messages in SMS format instead.

3 Update the Google Messages app

Your version may be out of date

Your messaging version should already support RCS, but you should still check for updates so your application keeps running smoothly. To update Android apps:

1. Open app Store app.

4 Is Google Messages your default messaging app?

You might have accidentally set another app as your default app

4. tap SMS App.

5 Confirm your phone number

The correct number must be associated with the message

If you just bought a new device, your SIM card may have your phone number mixed up. Here’s how to check the phone number associated with Google Messages:

1. Open the Messages app and tap your contour In the upper right corner.
2. tap Message settings.
3. tap advanced.
4. under telephone number, confirm that your phone number is correct.If not, tap telephone number And make it right.

6 Clear carrier service storage and cache

This may be a background issue

The carrier service is a background application that you don’t have to worry about unless something goes wrong. If you still can’t send RCS chats, try clearing your carrier service storage:

1. Open set up app.
2. tap application.
3. tap View all apps,then click Carrier Services.If you don’t see it, tap three points > display system.
4. tap Storage and caching.
5. tap clear storage,then click delete arrive confirm.
6. Go back to the previous screen and click Forced stop.

7 Clear Google Messages storage space

You won’t lose your messages, just your settings

Likewise, clearing the app storage of Google Messages itself can resolve RCS issues. In this order:

1. Open set up app.
2. tap application.
3. tap message.If you don’t see it, first tap View all apps.
4. tap Storage and caching.

8 Sometimes time is a trick

It’s not ideal, but you probably have no choice

Some carriers limit the number of times a number can be verified in a 24-hour period. This may not be the advice you want to hear, but if you open and close RCS chat multiple times in a short period of time, you may be locked out of RCS chat for 24 hours (or more). If you try to enable RCS chat but Google can’t verify your phone number, your best bet is to turn off RCS chat and wait a day or so. Then, open the RCS chat again and it should verify your number immediately.
