Apple has gained Once a favorite target of competitors and government agencies. The company has come under repeated scrutiny from regulators around the world and has been accused by other tech companies of anti-competitive behavior. Apple’s latest legal challenge is a thorny one: an antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and more than a dozen state attorneys general. The lawsuit targets security and privacy features that are only available on the iPhone, and accuses Apple of using that exclusivity to lock consumers into its ecosystem. At the center of the lawsuit is the lack of cross-platform encryption (green versus blue bubble) in Apple’s messaging platform, which the government claims harms consumers by making them more vulnerable to attack.
