what you need to know
- Humane’s upcoming AI Pin will connect with Google Photos and Google Contacts.
- The device has a small camera that snaps photos quickly and automatically uploads them to a Google Photos account over LTE.
- In addition to Google Photos and Contacts, Humane plans to integrate Google Calendar at a later date.
We still don’t know much about the Humane AI Pin until the device officially launches in mid-April, but the company has just shared more information about how the AI Pin will integrate with Google services. Humane explains on its support page (via 9to5Google) that AI Pins can connect to Google Photos and Google Contacts instantly.
Humane AI Pin can connect to various third-party services through Humane. Center, a web client for managing AI Pins and its integration platform. After going to Humanity. Center and click on the Google option under Available Services to link, all AI Pin owners need to do is log in to their Google account to proceed. Once completed, they will see a green checkmark and Google will appear under the Humane Center’s list of linked services.
Currently, Google Photos and Contacts are the only two services that can be linked to AI Pins. However, the company has revealed the possibility of integrating Google Calendar later. This allows users to create and manage calendar events using voice using human-friendly AI Pins without having to pull out their smartphones. Currently, Humane is only previewing calendar integration, letting users ask for existing events.
The Humane AI Pin has a small 13MP ultrawide sensor for snapping photos quickly. AI Pin takes three images in a row and then uses artificial intelligence and computational photography to improve the final image. The device can preview images via the laser display, although the colors are weird and the quality is low. This is where Google Photos integration comes into play, as photos taken with AI Pin can be automatically uploaded to the cloud.
Initial uploads will be over LTE, which requires a $24 monthly subscription through T-Mobile to use the AI Pin. This will contain a temporary low-resolution version of your photo. Later, when the AI Pin has enough battery and is connected to a known Wi-Fi network, full-resolution versions of photos and videos will be uploaded.
Google Contacts integration will make contacts stored in your Google account available on AI Pin.
The Humane AI Pin is a $699 wearable artificial intelligence device that is the first product from Humane, a startup founded by several former Apple employees. AI Pin is expected to begin shipping to early buyers in mid-April.
