Introspect launches GDDR7 test system for fast GDDR7 GPU design

Introspect this week launched its M5512 GDDR7 memory test system, which is designed for testing GDDR7 memory controllers, physical interfaces and GDDR7 SGRAM chips. The tool will enable memory and processor manufacturers to verify that their products perform as specified in the standard.

One of the key stages of processor design is testing its standard interfaces (such as PCIe, DisplayPort or GDDR) to ensure that they logically and electrically operate as specified and achieve specified performance. Introspect’s M5512 GDDR7 memory test system is designed to perform the following tasks: test new GDDR7 memory devices, troubleshoot protocol issues, evaluate signal integrity, and perform comprehensive memory read/write stress testing.

This product is useful for designers of GPU/SoC, graphics cards, PCs, networking equipment and memory chips, which will speed up the development of real-world products that rely on GDDR7 memory. Currently, GPU and SoC designers and memory manufacturers use highly customized setups consisting of many tools to characterize signal integrity and conduct detailed stress testing of memory read/write functionality, which is very important at this stage of development. But using a single tool can significantly speed up all processes and provide experts with a more comprehensive understanding.

The M5512 GDDR7 Memory Test System is a 72-pin desktop test and measurement device capable of operating in PAM3 mode at up to 40 Gbps and provides a virtual GDDR7 memory controller. The device features bidirectional circuitry for performing read and write operations, and each pin is equipped with extensive analog characterization capabilities such as femtosecond resolution delay injection, millivolt resolution voltage control, programmable jitter injection, and various Eye diagram margin is a critical feature for communication characterization and compliance testing. In addition, the system integrates device power with precise power sequencing and ramping control, providing a comprehensive solution for AC characterization and memory functional stress testing on any GDDR7 device.

The Introspects M5512 was designed in close collaboration with JEDEC members who are committed to the GDDR7 specification, so it is committed to meeting all their compliance testing requirements. It is worth noting, however, that the device does not eliminate the need for interoperability testing and still requires companies to develop their own testing algorithms, but it is still an important tool in guiding device development and getting it to the point where the chip can begin interoperability testing.
