Provides $7.7 million to Utah to increase digital inclusion

Salt Lake City(ABC4) – Utahns can now apply to receive more than $7.7 million to “give individuals and communities the tools, skills and opportunities they need” to benefit from high-speed internet.

Ministry of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration Friday’s announcement comes as the Biden-Harris administration “Internet for All“Initiatives are an important part of President Biden’sInvest in the United States“Agenda.

More than $800 million reportedly available to states nationwide National Capabilities Plan for the Digital Equity Act.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in a press release that President Biden is committed to ensuring that everyone in Utah and across the country has access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet service.

In addition, Raimondo said the Commerce Department’s work to build high-speed Internet infrastructure is “just one piece of the puzzle.”

“Utah families need the tools and skills they need to take full advantage of their internet connectivity, and that’s the $7.7 million opportunity we’re announcing today,” Raimondo said. “President Biden’s digital equity plan will realize the promise of the internet for everyone in Utah, no matter where they live or what their background is.”

States will use the funds to begin implementing their Digital Equity Plan.

“Utah’s goal is to use Capability Grant funding to empower all people to fully participate in modern society through affordable high-speed internet, safe and secure devices, and the training to achieve digital independence,” the release states.
