Gemini is Google’s latest AI product, representing a major advancement in the field of AI (artificial intelligence) and demonstrating Google’s commitment to advancing multi-modal AI technology. However, it is worth noting that Gemini is essentially a rebrand of Google Bard, and there are still various issues that need to be addressed. While it’s expected to be a potential successor to Google Assistant, it’s not ready to completely replace it yet.
One area of improvement is in the handling of navigation requests. Previously, when requesting a route using Gemini, users would receive a card showing route details, including distance, travel time and map. However, to access the actual navigation, users must click on a link within the card, which detracts from the hands-free experience.
To simplify this process, Google has introduced Updates to the latest version of Gemini. Published on March 25, this update eliminates the need for manual intervention by automatically launching Google Maps Navigation shortly after requesting directions. With this enhancement, users can experience a more seamless navigation process without having to interact with additional links.
While these improvements are welcome, it’s important to acknowledge that Gemini is still a work in progress. Users have to choose between Gemini and Google Assistant, as enabling one disables the other. Understanding Gemini’s strengths and limitations is critical to optimizing the user experience.
