Tony Hawk finally lives up to his name in his upcoming animated series about skateboarding birds

Finally, Tony Hawk used his last name to create an animated children’s series about a skateboarding bird.

Obviously, Hawke is best known for his skateboarding skills, but a name like his obviously helps the brand as a whole. His nickname is even “Birdman,” and he actually owns a skateboard company called “Birdhouse,” so his connection to his feathered friends isn’t lost. But there was always a feeling he could do more with the name – and now, Deadline reports, he’s developing Skatebirds, an animated series aimed at children ages 6 to 11, with Laughing Dragon Studios. Unsurprisingly, the show was inspired by his nickname and, according to the show’s producers, aims to “celebrate skateboarding’s fun community while emphasizing its adventurous nature.”

“Skatebirds” follows “a group of young skateboarders who happen to be birds, as they come together to support their hometown and show the world that when they put their feathers together, they can do anything they want .” The themes of the show all sound great, with a focus on teamwork, friendship, and community, which are all important parts of the skateboarding experience. Each episode will apparently run 11 minutes, which is standard for animated children’s shows, and there are apparently plans to expand to platforms like YouTube and TikTok.

Speaking about the show, Hawke himself said he was “thrilled to be working with Laughing Dragon Studios on this unique series. Skateboarding unites communities, gets kids active and builds confidence while providing endless opportunities. The show doesn’t appear to have a release date yet, so you’ll just have to stay on your toes for now.
