WhatsApp this week rolled out a useful new feature to iOS users that will make watching videos on the messaging platform hassle-free.
Earlier this week, WhatsApp for iOS launched June 24, 1977 Version number, brings a new convenient feature that allows users to quickly forward or rewind the video by double-clicking the edge of the screen (via WABetaInfo). This feature is very popular in leading video apps like YouTube and social media apps like X (formerly Twitter).
During video playback, double-clicking any edge of the video can fast forward or rewind the video by ten seconds.
Currently, this feature has been officially launched on the iOS version of WhatsApp. It’s unclear whether the feature will be rolled out on Android devices; however, the video control feature has appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android as early as November 2023. Although the feature is not present in the stable version of the app, it is believed to be available in the beta version.
With the feature now available for iOS users, we could soon see it coming to Android phones and tablets as well. This will be a handy feature among several others that have emerged over the past few weeks.
Some of WhatsApp’s latest features include longer status updates similar to Instagram, which are also coming to the app’s latest beta version for Android devices. Another feature in development is the ability to hide previews of links shared in WhatsApp messages.
WhatsApp on Android is also testing the ability to transcribe voice notes in chats, which can be useful in certain situations where users are unable to hear voice messages and want to read them. What’s interesting about this feature is that they’re still end-to-end encrypted and don’t leave the device. It is worth noting that this feature is already available on the iOS platform.
