i really love Stars and sea last year, but I admit I enjoyed games like this. I love the charismatic characters and pixelated graphics that make an otherwise grand and fantastical landscape feel alien to me, warm and even nostalgic, like home. But what if a game tried to do the opposite?Well, I guess it’s kind of like my acquaintancea model with Super Mario RPG, but with more dirt. At the start of the game you’re a down on your luck guy who’s tricked into a dingy apartment where you’re basically jumped and pushed out the window to your death. However, when you land, you seem to have entered another world called “Wish City”, where the people are fantasy monsters, telling the story of the dirty urban life in the 1980s.described to me as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meet Super Mario RPG my friend Make your inspiration known immediately.
my relativesThe gameplay consists of time-based attacks, which unlike games I’ve already called out, can be very fun, but is also very… well, familiar, which means its strongest appeal is the presentation and story. While it’s too early to tell how this will turn out, I do appreciate some of the strengths of both. First off, the combat UI is mostly graffiti on a brick wall that wouldn’t look out of place in the game. TMNT I grew up watching the TV series and it imbues it with a completely unique nostalgia that I can really relate to. Secondly, I love its flippant writing and intentionally shabby feel. Wish City is completely unclean and this seems to extend to its people and institutions. The game doesn’t directly say ACAB, but early introductions to the police don’t make a good impression on them, and your first party member is an alcoholic private eye who can give Harry DuBois ( Disco Elysium) runs for his money.
