Leak suggests Google Pixel 9 series may ditch ‘sun visor’ design

According to leaked renders, the upcoming Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL will differ from the unique “visor” camera design found in recent Pixel models. While the visor design brought a unique character to the Pixel 6 and beyond, Google seems to have chosen to make less drastic changes with the Pixel 9 series.

The visor’s design, while not universally praised for its beauty, blends fun and functionality, giving the phone a raised angle that’s not wobbly. However, leaked renders suggest that the Pixel 9 series will feature a long, pill-shaped camera bump that spans the width of the phone, as opposed to an edge-to-edge visor slat.

These renders continue the two-tone theme seen in previous Pixel models, adding a touch of style and visual appeal. However, the new design is likely to polarize opinion, especially among those who consider sun visors to be a signature feature of Pixel phones over the past few years.

Interestingly, Google will reportedly expand its Pixel lineup this year with three models: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The addition of the “XL” version marks the return of this version since the Pixel 5 XL in 2020. The expansion raises questions about Google’s strategy for positioning these models in the market.

Overall, while the shift in visor design may disappoint some fans, the leaked renders suggest that Google is working hard to strike a balance between innovation and familiarity with the Pixel 9 series.
