Lizzo claims she is quitting the music industry because the ongoing backlash has become too much for the star.

Lizzo will probably hold up the mic forever. The singer has announced that she is quitting the music industry due to constant harassment from critics on the internet.

On March 29, Lizzo posted an emotional message on her Instagram Story. In the post, she said the criticism took a toll on her mentally. Complex reshared a screenshot of her words on their Instagram.

“I’m tired of putting up with the drag of everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music, make people happy, and help the world become a little better than I found it,” Lizzo wrote. “But I started to feel like the world didn’t want me to be a part of it. I was constantly met with lies about my influence and opinions… made the butt of jokes at every turn because of my appearance… my character was picked apart by people who didn’t know me , disrespecting my name.”

However, celebrities showed love to the emotionally troubled star, encouraging her to continue pursuing her craft.

“F that Do U,” Queen Latifah commented, according to the outlet.

Letoya Luckett added: “You are deeply loved.”

Lizzo has faced body shaming throughout her career. Although her music preaches self-love, the backlash against the singer’s body and character has become unbearable.

Recently, however, she has been locked in a legal battle with former dancers who have accused her of fat-shaming and sexual harassment. The lawsuit, filed in August 2023, details weight discrimination employees faced, as well as forced participation in pornographic activities.

They claim the singer created a hostile work environment, especially given Lizzo’s advocacy of body positivity and safe spaces for all. In December 2023, another lawsuit filed by a costume designer who was on tour doubled down on the allegations.

However, Lizzo’s ongoing issues with online abuse date back to before the lawsuit. In May 2023, she lambasted her in a hateful tweet about her body after a video of her performance went viral. She made her Twitter private to limit negative comments. San Diego Union-Tribune.

Despite Lizzo’s claims of quitting music, the singer has not further stated whether she actually plans to do so.
