Dragon’s Dogma 2’s first patch finally adds option to start a new game, making housing available earlier

Dragon’s Dogma 2 received its first post-launch update on Friday. As expected, the game isn’t huge, but it does address some of the early complaints many players had about the game.

The patch finally adds an option to start a new game when a save file already exists. Dragon’s Dogma 2, like its predecessor, does not allow multiple save slots. This is unlikely to change, but the sequel doesn’t offer the ability to start a new save and overwrite an existing one.

Not only can you now effectively abandon your journey and start over, you can also gain quests that allow you to own a house early in the game. The patch simply makes habitation missions appear earlier, giving you more control over when you can save and rest.

And, as promised earlier this week, the number of Art of Shapeshifting items available in Pawn Guilds has been increased to 99. The Art of Transformation is an item used to adjust the appearance of your character, as well as the appearance of your main pawn. Dragon’s Dogma 2’s character creator is so advanced that we hired a real artist to review the characters created by various members of VG247.

Players using Nvidia DLSS should also see better image quality thanks to this update. Elsewhere in the patch notes, a fix for 3D models not displaying correctly is mentioned, along with various other bug and text fixes.

The patch comes just days after Capcom admitted the game had major framerate issues, particularly in towns. At the time, the developer stated that the reason for the drop was due to how the game allocates CPU resources, essentially keeping track of NPCs and their status at all times. While work is underway to mitigate this impact, it may take some time to actually materialize.

It’s unclear when we can expect a bigger, more impactful patch. Until then, the game’s Steam review rating remains “Mixed.” In case you missed it, we’ve posted more Dragon’s Dogma 2 guides to help answer your questions and provide some instructions on what choices you should make throughout the story, such as whether you should give money to these Choose Sven and who you should show your beggar outfit to.

If you still haven’t encountered any of these in your own travels, it’s a good idea to make sure you know how to unlock the wizard and warrior classes, even if you don’t plan on doing so, you’ll need their passive skills to master them.
