Google launched Beta 2.1 today as it continues its efforts to iron out bugs in the latest Android 14 QPR3 (Quarterly Platform Release 3). This update focuses on fixing a series of issues plaguing beta versions of the operating system.
While a new major Beta 3 update is expected to be released in a few weeks, Google is pushing for interim updates to address numerous issues. These include frequent app crashes, charging issues on Pixel tablets, on-screen navigation glitches, display errors, and more. Here is a detailed list of all bug fixes mentioned in the release notes:
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the device launcher to crash when trying to view recent apps. (Issue #328803294)
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused Pixel tablet devices to not charge when connected to the dock. (Issue #299800125)
- Fixed an issue where swiping up from the bottom of the screen didn’t always return to the home screen.
- Fixed an issue that caused notification layouts on the lock screen to appear with extra padding.
- Fixed various issues that caused frequent “Application Not Responding” errors in system and user applications.
- Fixed an issue where swiping down from the top of the screen didn’t always show the notification shade.
- Fixed an issue where Pixel Fold devices sometimes displayed content on only half of the inner screen when the device was unfolded.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes resulted in user wallpaper settings not being backed up correctly.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the Quick Tap to Start gesture to not work.
- Fixed various other issues affecting system stability, performance, connectivity, interactivity, and camera.
The latest Beta 2.1 update (build number AP21.240305.005) still contains the March 2024 security patch. It’s rolling out to Pixel 5a, Pixel 6 series and 6a, Pixel 7 series and 7a, Pixel 8 series, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold.
Due to ongoing stability issues with the QPR3 beta version, regular users may want to wait for a more polished version before installing it on their primary device. Users already on the Android 14 Beta program should receive the update automatically.
