“Avatar: The Last Airbender” It’s not over when the show ends, and you can now read the manga that continues the story for free online.
The original animated version of Avatar: The Last Airbender did wrap up much of it, but since the world was so large, there was still plenty of room for more stories to be told. There are many more stories, such as the 2012 comic trilogy The Promise, which is set a year after the events of the original show. After the Hundred Years War, Aang, Zuko and others must cooperate with the King of Earth to stabilize the world, but of course things are not that simple. It was written by the series’ original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, as well as Gene Luen Yang, As such it is part of the main canon and well worth a look.

It’s still easy to get a physical copy of The Promise, but if you can’t, here’s good news: Webtoons, a webcomic hosting site, is releasing all of The Promise for free, and the first three issues are already available to view here . The entire comic is scheduled to be released for free on Webcomics, with new issues released every Saturday, although if you prefer, you can pay and use the site’s fastpass system to read them faster.
“Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph’s on-screen journey is just one part of their adventure, which will continue in a series of incredible graphic novels,” Webtoon content director David S. Lee said in a statement. “Now, readers can immerse themselves in the rich storytelling and stunning artwork of these graphic novels in a new way. We’re excited to offer Avatar: The Last Airbender fans a new way to experience the magic of this beloved series and launches the webcomic community into the incredibly bendy world.”
The comic is being launched in partnership with publisher Dark Horse Comics, and a press release states that the entire series will be published on the webcomic. This is good news for those who still don’t know what happened to Zuko’s mother, as this was later explored in the comic “The Search”. But for now, you have to wait and read The Commitment. At least it’s a better use of your time than live action.
