Redmi President Wang Tao revealed that the Xiaomi brand will soon launch a new series called Turbo. They will sit between the K and Note series, and both will focus on performance. Its first member will be called Redmi Turbo 3, which may be the new name of Redmi Note 13 Turbo.
In a lengthy article, followed by a Q&A session on social media, Wang explained the thinking behind Turbo – which will be a series of phones that will “reshape the mid-range market”.
On the face of it, the Redmi K phone will still be a “flagship killer” phone, with the Redmi Turbo sitting below it and focusing on performance, while the Redmi Note will balance it out with a better camera setup.
The first phone in the series is the Turbo 3 as it is the third phone in Redmi’s portfolio that aims to deliver raw performance (at the expense of other flagship specs) at a lower price – the first one was Redmi Note 11T Pro, then Redmi Note 11T Pro. It’s the Redmi Note 12 Turbo; obviously, what we’re getting is not the Note 13 Turbo. Since Thomas Wang spoke to the Chinese audience, there’s no word on whether the phone will also be launched as the Poco F6, and the Poco series isn’t available in China.
This new series might clutter Xiaomi’s product portfolio even more, but at least we’re not getting a new Redmi Note – the 11 series comes with 18 different variants, while the 12 series is a bit more modest with “only” 13 different variants The body is no different at all.
