This is The ultimate marketing question For movie studios. You want people to see your new movie – so you tease something guaranteed Make them want to go.The problem lies with the filmmakers I originally wanted to give everyone a surprise. So, are you going to spoil the surprise in the trailer to make sure people go to the movie? Or would you save it so people who go have a better experience?
Today, studios typically choose the former. This is the easier and safer move. but, for Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire, There are several big surprises fully preserved in the trailer, and director Adam Wingard is very happy about them.
“That was initially a hard question for me because I knew some of the stuff we weren’t showing was some of the most impressive stuff in the movie,” the director told io9. “It’s exciting, though. I watch a lot of reaction videos and stuff like that. Some people are like, ‘Oh, I’ve already seen this movie.’ ” It’s like, “No, you haven’t seen the movie. “I think they’re going to be very pleasantly surprised when they realize, ‘Wow, the trailer seems to show everything, but there’s actually a lot that’s not revealed.'”
What exactly are we talking about? To reveal this, we have to spoil the story.
There are two big spoilers in the movie, both for Titans not revealed in the trailers. The first is Shimo, the ice giant created for the movie and a slave to King Ska, and then there’s Big Mothra, who comes to defend the Maori and joins forces with Kong and Godzilla.
Now, to be fair, Shimo was teased “briefly” in the trailer. We see its eyes through the lava, where Kong is deflecting some of its ice. However, since it was a creature created for this movie and not one of the famous Toho creatures, showing it off would bring more questions than excitement. “What kind of monster is that?” fans will surely ask. By leaving it out, it fuels speculation and anticipation.
However, Mothra is sure to cause more problems. The iconic flying creature is one of Godzilla’s most famous friends and foes, and a quick shot of her wings in the trailer sparks plenty of extra excitement. But nothing. In fact, Mothra is so surprising in the movie that when the scene where Jia starts unlocking her happened, I wasn’t expecting her at all. But she does it, and adds a nice extra layer of color to the final battle.
Are you surprised by these revelations? Is it wise to keep them away from the trailer? Let us know below.
