Details on what’s to come are still thin The X-Files reboot, but the creators of the original show thought it would be a difficult problem to deal with.
The X-Files was originally released in the early 1990s, before the internet was as all-encompassing as it is today. Of course, conspiracy theories still existed back then, even on the internet, but times have definitely changed and more people than ever before believe in things that are completely unbelievable. For “The X-Files” original creator Chris Carter, that could be a bit of a problem for the upcoming reboot, which will be directed by Ryan Coogler. “It’s all a conspiracy,” Carter told Inverse in a recent interview. “No one knows what the truth is. It’s completely subjective and relative right now.”

Carter pointed to a recent example involving Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, and how there are many conspiracy theories about what might have happened to her, given that she hasn’t been seen in public since the beginning of the year. Middleton herself later revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had been keeping the matter private while she searched for the best way to deal with the situation. “Can you imagine, first of all, being sick and then everyone having an opinion about it?” Carter said. “The most personal things become the most public things, and then the most misunderstood things.”
Interestingly, Carter reflected on how The X-Files itself might encourage viewers to be skeptical of the world, saying: “You do a show like this, [and] There is media coverage of you, what does that entail? What will happen? What was the outcome of that incident? This isn’t always a good thing. ”
When it comes to the reboot, though, Carter seems excited about it. “It’s funny, people say, ‘Aren’t you possessive?’ and I say, ‘No, I’m excited to see what other people do with it.'” Coogler’s initial suggestion for a reboot got the two of them going A “really nice conversation,” Carter shared, in which he “just asked him what his ideas were and he told me and I said, ‘These sound like good ideas.'”
He did note that Coogler had a hard job, and Carter wasn’t wrong. The X-Files is a beloved show, so any kind of reboot would take a lot of effort. We know nothing about it other than Coogler being tapped to lead the show, not even a release window, so in the meantime you’ll just have to wait for more.
