Updated: January 9, 2024, 11:00 a.m. ET This article has been updated with the latest information about the Kindle Rewards points system. Starting June 1, 2023, members will earn 3 points for every $1 spent on Kindle books, and these points will expire in three months.
Avid Kindle readers should check their Kindle Rewards balance immediately. They might just have some free money waiting to spend on new books on their 2024 reading lists.
If you haven’t heard, Amazon rewards Kindle owners for doing the thing that made them want a Kindle in the first place: reading. The Kindle Rewards Beta points system earns 3 Kindle Points for every $1 spent on Kindle books and 1 Kindle Point for every $1 spent on print books (excluding textbooks, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, and digital subscriptions). Every 300 points can be redeemed for $3 in Kindle book credit.

300 points sounds too high until you realize that most individual Kindle book purchases only cost 40 to 50 points. (If you go the print route, you’ll still see 20 to 30 points, plus new coffee table decorations.) The 300-point milestone is reached every six or seven books, which probably won’t last forever, specifically Depends on how much you read. Keep an eye out for bonus providers and the occasional double or triple points day.
How to get started with Kindle Rewards
Kindle Rewards requires no registration, and technically doesn’t even require a Kindle. (You can read the books you buy on Amazon on your phone or tablet if you prefer.) All Amazon users are eligible, regardless of whether they are a Kindle Unlimited member. Purchasing your first Kindle book or eligible print book automatically starts the points earning process.
You can find your Kindle Rewards points on the Amazon Web Rewards page, as you cannot purchase Kindle books directly from the Kindle app or the Amazon app.
To find potential points you can earn on a book that interests you, just check the Amazon listing for that book. Kindle Rewards points values are displayed by the price of each book as long as you are logged into your Amazon account. For example, if you buy Britney Spears’ memoir in Kindle format, you’ll get 51 points; if you choose the hardcover version, you’ll get 21 points.
The fine print is that once you earn your points, you have three months to redeem them. This wasn’t always the case, but in June 2023 the Kindle Rewards program changed and Kindle points will be valid for three months. However, this means that you may still have points from the book you purchased last season – we’ll check to see if that’s the case for you.
