Yoshi-P correctly assumes what we’ll be playing before Final Fantasy XIV Road to Dawn: “I’ll give you a week to enjoy the Elden Ring DLC”

Final Fantasy 14: Road to Dawn Launching in exactly one week Ring of Elden DLC, yes, it does sound like producer Naoki Yoshida did this on purpose.

Last week at PAX East, Yoshida (aka Yoshi-P) took to the stage to finally announce that Final Fantasy 14’s next expansion, Dawntrail, will be released for early access players on June 28, with the full version coming in July. Published on the 2nd. Venn diagrams that fit both Final Fantasy XIV fans and Elden Ring fans may have noticed that the Early Access date is exactly one week after Elden Ring: Shadow of the Tree drops. It sounds like Yoshi-P himself is very aware of this, as he makes it sound like the expansion has been delayed slightly to accommodate the fact that everyone will be playing the Elden Ring DLC.

“We think everyone will be interested in playing the Elden Ring DLC,” he said through a translator. “I’m going to give you a week. I’m going to give you a week to enjoy the Elden Ring DLC and then you can start your summer in Dawntrail.” He added with a laugh: “I just wanted to clarify, Not because I want to play the Elden Ring DLC first and then Dawntrail. I’m looking forward to it, though.”

Honestly, I can’t blame him. Shadow of the Erdtree is almost guaranteed to be an absolute hit, and even though it’s only a fraction of the size of the base game, it sounds like we’re all going to need a little longer than a week to finish it – at least, that week anyway.

Interestingly, Dawntrail also features some Final Fantasy 9-themed items. Yoshi-P said the reasons behind these items are still a secret, but they clearly have everyone wondering about Final Fantasy 9 Remake. Is it finally coming?
