This was the first work to break away from pure fantasy and begin to incorporate steampunk elements into the world, paving the way for more classic works such as Final Fantasy VII.

Pixel Remaster for Android cleans up the sprites and adds modern controls and quality-of-life features without tampering with the classics of the original. This is a complete, deep, and expansive JRPG adventure with a cast of lovable misfits that you’re going to fall in love with.

After all these years of content updates, I can say that Dead Cells is undoubtedly one of the best games in the genre and a must-have for anyone interested in this type of running game. Each run is satisfying on its own, but the gradual progression draws you in and always draws you in for another run.

The game already seems tailor-made for portability thanks to its detailed yet pixelated art style and run-based structure, but the team definitely has a port locked down. Depending on the Android device you’re playing on, you can set the frame rate to 30, 60 or unlimited, toggle HD graphics and controller support.

3 Cross the road

While some of us do enjoy bigger, more complex, and denser games on Android, I know many more people just want a game that’s easy to pick up and play. Crossy Road is a simple, charming and addictive game that feels like the next generation of Frogger on your phone.

The premise is to simply move your little character forward as far as possible, picking up coins along the way without getting hit by obstacles or dying in endless levels. These coins unlock new characters and change the environment, giving you goals on every run rather than just setting a high score.

It’s no mystery why Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time: people buy it on every device they own, including Android! Jokes aside, the Android version of Minecraft is just as addictive as the PC or console version. This is also the full game, not a watered-down version with some deleted modes or content. You can build, destroy, survive, and anything else you can think of in Minecraft.

I’m obviously including Minecraft here because you can play it offline, but when you’re online it supports cross-platform play with all your friends and family. Creative mode is great for killing a few minutes, or you can load up a survival world for a long session. Minecraft does it all.

A true crime fan’s dream game

I can’t say much about this game because to spoil it would ruin the entire experience. That said, if you’re interested in detective work or mystery solving, Her Story is probably the best example of making you feel like a true detective that I’ve ever experienced. There is no right or wrong way to play the game, everyone will experience it differently to create their own path to truth.

That’s assuming you’re looking at disorganized clips of police interviews after the murders. Each clip is only a few seconds long, and once it’s over, you can enter any keyword or name you hear to search for more clips containing that clip. You can follow any clues you like until you unravel the whole thing in a uniquely satisfying experience.

If you’re playing on your phone, or just aren’t in the mood for fast-paced, action-packed games, what better way to relax offline than with Farming Simulator? A game about living a simple life is perfect for playing without an internet connection, and it happens to be one of the best games in the genre.

With dozens or even hundreds of hours of content to immerse yourself in, it’s hard not to get hooked on building your dream farm. Stardew Valley originally launched a few years ago, but is still supported by new content and DLC. The mobile version also has extra features for easier control on smaller screens.

Does anyone else miss Where’s Waldo? I can’t be the only one, because The Hidden People was a smash hit that brought a simple concept into the modern day. As wonderful and detailed as these books are, we can only imagine what they would look like if they were interactive.

I get it, the title is off-putting, but don’t let yourself be put off by the fact that it sounds like gibberish. Dangan Argument is an anime-style mystery/visual novel game that’s unlike anything you’ve seen or read about before. It’s weird, creepy, funny, but most of all gripping. As a bonus, if you end up liking the game’s unique style, there are already two sequels to keep your madness going.

The story follows a group of high school students who are all the best at something (or in your character’s case, the luckiest), but wake up locked in school. A stuffed bear tells them that the only way for anyone to leave is to kill one of the students and not be found guilty in the subsequent trial of the surviving students. From there, the twists and turns only get crazier.
