Eager for more exciting information on Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC? Well, its ESRB listing is now online, showing us the rating as well as some interesting details about some questionable content in the base game.
Yes, if you’ve ever wondered what life would be like when you started playing Elden Ring for the first time, relaxing on the beach, or wondering what FromSoft character Malenia might be related to, there’s now a new DLC worth checking out. If you’re expecting any funny banter from Shadow of the Erdtree, though, you might want to chill out.

You can find a list of the DLC on the ESRB’s website, and it looks like it’s just become a reality. However, if you’re very familiar with the base game’s rating board list, you might have a hard time telling the two apart.
From the rating itself, Mature 17+ features “blood, language, suggestive themes, [and] Violence,” to the ratings summary, which is typically the section where the ESRB outlines why it gave the game in question the rating it did, everything is the same as the original Elden Ring’s listing.
In this regard, summaries can be said to be surprising, since in them we can sometimes get details or hints about the content of the game, leading the board to assign it a certain rating. This is how we learn about things like sex, drugs, and violence in Starfield . However, this is just a copy and paste of Elden Ring’s comments about severed fingers and people occasionally saying bad things.
why is that? Well, as far as I know, the only reason Shadow of the Erdtree is getting its own ESRB listing is because Bandai Namco and FromSoftware will be selling a Shadow of the Erdtree version of the game that comes with DLC and the base game. This appears to be what this list is actually for, rather than just the DLC itself, although it references titles without “version” at the end to make things clearer in that regard.
So, what we have here is more of a Skyrim/Skyrim Special Edition scenario (it’s the former and the latter), so to reiterate the summary, in fact, if you look on the ESRB site for other big DLCs, such as Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Freedom DLC , you won’t find a separate list specifically for them. That said, you can also find separate listings for some of Fallout 3’s DLC packs, which don’t repeat the game’s summary, but just note “Not applicable to this game” where it’s supposed to be, so that’s Just one thing.
To be fair, it would be fun if we all booted up Shadow of the Trees through that egg and then found ourselves just playing the base game again, but maybe with some more intense shadow rendering.
Regardless, this will make it easier to dive right into Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail on June 28th, even if that’s not the case.
