On Wednesday, April 3, OnePlus announced that it will launch a new generative AI feature called “AI Eraser” on several of its smartphones. This feature allows users to edit or remove unwanted elements from photos.
“AI Eraser represents the first step in our vision to liberate users’ creativity and revolutionize the future of photo editing through AI, allowing users to create outstanding photos with just a few touches,” said OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu.
Similar to the Magic Eraser that first debuted on Google Pixel phones, OnePlus users can manually select and delete unwanted objects from images in their photo library. Once the user highlights certain objects, such as pedestrians or defects in the image, the tool analyzes the selected area and automatically creates a replacement background that blends in with its surroundings.
This isn’t the first AI feature we’ve seen on OnePlus. Earlier this year, OnePlus launched AI Call Summarizer as part of an OxygenOS update, which listens to your calls and summarizes them for your reference. However, this feature is only available for OnePlus 12 users. According to the changelog, the AI call summarizer can extract “time, location, action items and other key information” from your conversations.
There’s also Breeno Touch, which allows users to scan the screen to find content and suggest relevant services based on searches.
Zhang Ni, general manager of OnePlus’ artificial intelligence products, said: “All OnePlus’s artificial intelligence functions are built based on the real needs of users. We will continue to invest heavily in developing more revolutionary artificial intelligence-based functions to make us more Closer to our vision: a future accessible to all.”
Liu also said that OnePlus devices will get more artificial intelligence features, which will be unveiled this year.
OnePlus will launch AI Eraser on OnePlus 11, OnePlus 12 and 12 R, OnePlus Open and even the latest Nord CE 4 globally. The company says the feature will gradually arrive on the aforementioned devices in April, but they haven’t specified a specific date yet.
