As the ’90s and LEGO continued to resolve factional conflicts, space evolved beyond just human-to-human stories. Roboforce introduced more robot characters in 1997, following the introduction of robot characters in the Exploriens series the previous year. Soon after, the introduction of UFO and Insectoids introduced the first non-humanoid alien minifigures, introducing advanced design techniques such as large pieces to replicate classic sci-fi curvature, or as Insectoids suggested, bug-like Design theme.
But it’s also an important era for LEGO Space, and for entirely different reasons. In the late 1990s, LEGO announced an unprecedented move: the launch of the first line of licensed playsets, based on a franchise poised for a new generation of transformation. In October 1999, Lego launched an inconspicuous small X-wing starfighter, which consisted of 263 bricks Star Wars Here, nothing is ever the same again.
