Meta’s popular WhatsApp service appears to have been shut down. The platform, which has more than 2 billion active users, began causing trouble for users around 2 p.m. ET, The Verge reported. The outage appears to be severe, affecting people around the world.

Other Meta-owned apps — namely Facebook, Instagram, and Threads — appear to be working at the moment, but there are reports of slowdowns on each service.
Looking at the company’s status page, we can see that the Ads Manager, Instagram Messenger API, Messenger Platform, WhatsApp Business API, Marketing API, and Ads Transparency sections are all listed under the “Major Disruption” category.
“We are currently experiencing an outage affecting the Cloud API service. This issue began on March 4, 2024 at 11:10 AM PST. Our engineering team is investigating this issue. If more information is available, we will update it within 4 hours Or provide another update soon. Available,” Meta said while talking about the status of WhatsApp Business API.
The news was affected by a 2-hour outage across Meta’s services last month. Back in 2021, another six-hour power outage occurred due to network issues.
