Hey you. Remember the town that served as the backdrop for the showdown in the first clip from the Fallout TV show we got last month? Well, it sounds like it’s actually inspired by Fallout 3’s Megaton, replacing unexploded nuclear weapons with a bunch of useful junk.
Well, stop plotting to convince some novice vault dweller to blow it up for you, Mr. Burke. Seriously though, this place called “Filly” sounds like there’s a lot more to it than just a run-of-the-mill wasteland trading post.

In a new interview with IGN about the show, director Jonathan Nolan revealed more about the first meeting between Ella Purnell’s Lucy and Walton Goggins’ ghoul. Nolan cited the location as something of an introduction to the wasteland, as it borrowed a lot from Megaton, and he fondly remembers it serving the same purpose when he first played Fallout 3.
This even feeds into Philly’s “core,” which isn’t exactly an unexploded nuclear bomb but “a big pile of junk that’s slowly sinking into the earth.” Yes. What’s so special about this mountain of garbage, you ask? “Our landfills basically become their gold, their mines, and they can mine them to extract old technology, old trash,” Nolan explained.
So, basically, it’s designed to subtly convey the connection between pre-war and post-war America, like a megaton bomb, just a little more recycled, and – hopefully for the town’s residents. Said – Reduce your chances of getting blown up by rich Brits who don’t like watching ponies on their balconies. That said, I wish we still had a cult that worshiped the trash heap, like Children of the Atom. The rubbish churches of the Great Settlers, I can picture them now.
In addition to Pony, Nolan also revealed why the series is set in California, explaining: “We really felt overwhelmed because, on a meta level, here we are, people in Hollywood adapting these games. ” I’m not sure if this is the ideal reason to decide on such an important aspect of the show, but to be fair, given that we know the NCR and Enclave will appear as factions, it’s possible there are a lot of other factors such as that playing into the selection as well effect.
