The Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has successfully equipped 15 remote schools in Aurora Province with high-speed Internet connections using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite Internet.
Each school received a Starlink satellite dish, router, free one-year internet subscription and Wi-Fi extender.
This major upgrade opens a new chapter for Aurora teachers and students, giving them access to digital media resources and rich information that goes far beyond the scope of traditional textbooks.
“The project provides efficient internet connectivity, giving schools the opportunity to keep up with current teaching methods. In this way, students can participate in online interactive classes,” DOST said.
Schools receiving Starlink kits include Calaocan Integrated School, Diniog National High School, Diagyan National High School, Dimanayat Integrated School and many other schools, with a total of 15 schools becoming the second batch of beneficiary schools. This follows the first delivery of Starlink kits to 11 remote schools in the province last year.
The Department of Science and Technology has allocated 1.563 million pesos (US$27,500) for the project under the Science and Technology Community Empowerment Program. The program aims to facilitate the transfer of technology to communities in key areas such as education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, disaster risk reduction, and industrial development or livelihoods, the report said. sun star.
