Have you ever been in a situation where you asked your parents to perform a complex (well, complex for them) task on their phone, but they couldn’t quite follow the written instructions? Well, we want your friends to become better visual learners. Both can easily screen record iOS system and Android, now your ad-hoc approach can be clearer.
How to screen record on iPhone
iOS makes taking screenshots and screen recordings a breeze. If you need to take a screenshot, there’s a handy shortcut of pressing the power and volume up buttons simultaneously. These will be saved to your photo library, and they will also appear in the bottom corner of the screen, which can be enlarged by tapping or swiped to close.
To enable the screen recording feature, you first go into Settings and tap on Control Center. Scroll down “More Controls” until you find the “Screen Recorder” feature. Click on the plus sign to take it to “Included Controls”. This will allow you to quickly access the screen recording functionality from Control Center.
You can access these features by swiping down from the top right corner of your phone. You should now see that the screen recorder button is a small bullseye-like symbol. Press the button, wait for the 3-second timer to end, and you should be able to record on any app. All these screen recordings will now appear in your photo library.
If you are in iPhone 14 Pro or any modern iPhone 15s, you can turn off the screen recorder via the dynamic island at the top. On previous iPhones, you needed to open Control Center again and tap the red bullseye symbol to end recording.
How to screen record on Android
Although there are many more types of Android devices than iPhones, screen masking and recording capabilities should be very similar on most devices. If you just want a screenshot, press the power button and the volume down key at the same time. This should work on most mainstream Android phones, such as Google Pixel or Samsung devices. Some devices then allow you to edit and crop the screenshot using a small toolbar popup that appears at the bottom of the screen.
However, if that shortcut doesn’t work, you can hold down the power button for a few seconds and a screenshot button should be introduced next to the power off and restart options.
You can also capture what Google calls “scrolling screenshots.” On any page with scrolling capabilities, you can click the small arrow down button to expand the screenshot further into the page.
Android screen recording should work on all phones running the system Latest operating system version 14. Swipe down from the top of the screen to get the menu. Then, under common features like flashlight and mute, there’s a “Screen Recorder” button. You can then choose to record media as well as any audio from your phone’s microphone. This is especially handy when you want to walk someone step-by-step through what you’re seeing. Android also lets you use a simple pen tool to annotate what you see on the screen.
To stop recording, click the Stop button on the small toolbar that appears at the top of the screen. Any screen recording is saved to your Photos app for easy reading and sharing.
