this super mario maker The community has been working collectively to push impossible levels, and it seems someone has successfully done it.
Last year, after closing its 3DS and Wii U e-stores, Nintendo announced that it would also shut down online services for both consoles. The day is coming soon, and starting tomorrow, April 8th, we won’t be able to play any games online, including classics like Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. While the former can count on Splatoon 2 and 3, the Super Mario Maker community has been working hard to complete each fan-made level before the servers shut down. Team 0% has been working specifically on this, but there’s a big problem, a level called “Trimming Herbs.”

Technically, the level itself is only 17 seconds long, but it requires extremely tight reflexes. After around 280,000 attempts, it was discovered that the creator of the level had not even passed the level, which is a prerequisite for submitting it online. It turns out the creators used tool-assisted speedrunning techniques, meaning a real person would likely be unbeatable. This does mean that Team 0% has technically beaten every level humanly possible, but of course some players are still determined to beat Trimming the Herbs no matter what.
Just a few days ago, “Super Mario Maker” player sanyx91smm2 successfully cleared the level in 13 seconds. The feat, which you can check out above, involves a lot of heavy breathing as players have a hard time believing they’ve actually achieved the goal they have. While it’s only a brief clip, it’s still an impressive achievement and a testament to the community doing this work in their free time.
It’s a shame that so many classic games will no longer be fully functional, yet another bizarre attempt by Nintendo to prevent people from enjoying its vast catalog of games.
