Fairphone Fairbuds are repairable earbuds built to last

Fairphone Fairbud 1

long story short

  • Fairphone introduces Fairbuds, earphones that allow you to easily swap out batteries so they’re built to last.
  • You can replace the batteries of the earbuds and charging case, and easily swap out several other parts.
  • The Fairbuds are priced at €149 (approximately $162) in Europe and are available in black or white.

Virtually all of the best earbuds you can buy right now are disposable. If you face any hardware issues with your headphones or case, your only recourse is to replace them. Earbuds are virtually impossible to repair, and the design and economic decisions of earbuds mean it’s easier to throw away damaged ones and buy new ones. Fairphone is known for its ethical approach to smartphones, and now it’s changing that perception with the launch of the unlikely Fairbuds, a pair of repairable and durable earbuds.

Unlike other TWS earbuds, the Fairbuds are not only repairable but also durable. Fairphone says you can easily replace seven spare parts on the Fairbuds: the earbud battery, silicone ring, earbud tip, charging case shell, charging case core, charging case battery and the earbuds themselves.

You can replace the battery in the earbuds and in the modular charging case, meaning your earbuds can last longer than the typical year for most earbuds. Plus, if you lose an earbud, you can order a replacement.

If you’re still not sure how long these products will last, Fairphone offers a three-year warranty on the Fairbuds, so you can see how confident they are in the product.

While the highlight of the Fairbuds is their repairability, the Fairphone also has good specs. The Fairbuds feature 11mm titanium-coated drivers and 3 microphones per earbud. There’s ANC onboard, and you also get Bluetooth multipoint connectivity to connect to two devices simultaneously via Bluetooth 5.3. These products are rated IP54 for sweat resistance. Fairbuds claims up to 5 hours of battery life for the ANC-equipped earbuds, and a total of 26 hours of battery life with the charging case. You can also configure the eight-band equalizer on the Fairbuds mobile app on Android and iOS.

Fairbuds can be ordered from the Fairbuds website or through other partners in Europe. They cost €149 (approximately $162) in Europe and £140 in the UK, and are available in black or white.
