Latest Pixel 8a leak shows matte back and thick bezels

long story short

  • New images of the Pixel 8a have leaked, showing off a rounded design and a matte finish on the back.
  • The images also point out the pronounced bottom bezels on the device.

Tech Robot A seemingly real image of the Pixel 8a was shared on X (formerly Twitter) – the source is unknown. The images reinforce previous leaks, showing the Pixel 8a adopting the circular design language introduced with the Pixel 8 series. One notable change evident in these new images is the matte finish on the Pixel 8a’s back panel, which could be a welcome change from the Pixel 7a’s glossy back panel.

The images also give us a glimpse of the rumored 6.1-inch display. While many reviews of the X have focused on the massive bottom bezel visible here, this is consistent with previous A-series Pixel designs. The biggest concern this time is that the Pixel 8a may become the first phone in its lineup to feature a 120Hz refresh rate display.

Under the hood, the Pixel 8a could be powered by Google’s Tensor G3 chipset, which promises significant performance improvements. The phone is also likely to retain the 64MP and 13MP dual camera setup from the Pixel 7a.

2024 will be a year of change for the entire Pixel series. While the Pixel 8a is rumored to see a significant price increase, the flagship Pixel 9 series could see more significant changes with all-new devices.

Google is expected to launch the Pixel 8a at Google I/O on May 14.
