- There are rumors that a new display is in the works for the Apple Watch X.
- Apple can use LTPO TFT technology to further reduce the power consumption of the screen.
- The company may be interested in using the technology in other products.
From new sensors to band locking mechanisms, there are plenty of rumors surrounding the Apple Watch X. The latest rumors suggest the wearable may get a power-saving display upgrade.
according to a report electricity company, Apple plans to use new screen technology for the Series 10’s OLED display. According to reports, the company will use new low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin film transistor (TFT) technology, which is said to further reduce power consumption.
The company’s current approach for the Apple Watch display uses oxide in two switching TFTs, while low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) is used for the remaining switching TFTs and driver TFTs. However, this new approach will use oxides on more switching TFTs as well as driver TFTs.
It seems Apple has not completely done away with LTPS. LTPS will reportedly be used for remaining TFTs and circuits beyond the visible pixel space.
The company’s work on Apple Watch display technology could serve as a testing ground for its other products. Apple is reportedly considering extending the use of this technology to iPhones. It is rumored that Apple will apply LTPO TFT to iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, and this technology will be applied to all four iPhone 17 models.
There are also rumors that the Series 10 will use a MicroLED panel. However, since the initial rumors emerged, there have been reports that Apple has abandoned internal projects and canceled plans with suppliers.
