Google is hosting its Cloud Next 2024 conference, where it’s getting candid about Workspace’s new generative AI capabilities and the debut of new applications.
According to a keyword post, the company has launched its latest Workspace app “Google Vids”. The “artificial intelligence-powered” video creation app helps users generate storyboards with multiple editing and stylization options, the announcement said. Google Vids is said to also have a narration feature. Users can choose from preset sounds or use their own.
If you’re having trouble with styling, Google Vids offers a range of templates that users can view. The company said its AI software will suggest scenes from stock videos, images and background music.
Since this takes you into the workspace, users can add others to collaborate on the video. Google added that users can “securely share items” directly from the browser. Google Vids is expected to be available at Workspace Labs in June 2024.
According to an update post, Google Docs is gearing up for a new “tab experience.” The company says the new feature is designed to help users “organize related information” within documents. Better document customization is coming in the form of new cover images that extend the length of the page horizontally.
The company says this documentation update will be released “in the coming weeks.”
Sheets gets new benefits with its table functionality. Google says the update will make it easier for Workspace users to “format and organize” their data with an upcoming design update. A new range of templates will follow, allowing users to easily jump into ready-made worksheets without having to start from scratch.
These updates to the table will also appear “in the coming weeks.”
Gmail soon followed, and Google was preparing to roll out a Help Me Write update that would bring voice functionality. Gemini will be included in an upcoming Gmail update as it provides users with a way to convert notes into emails. Gemini in Gmail is available through Workspace Labs, but it’s been slow to come out as the company rolls it out.
Gemini Enterprise, Business and Google One AI Premium customers will be able to take advantage of the new tools, Google said.
Cloud Next 2024 shows that Google is willing to fine-tune some other areas of Workspace, starting with Meet. The company plans to roll out “Translate for me in Meet” in the coming months, a feature that automatically detects and translates subtitles. To this end, Google has added support for 52 languages.
It’s worth noting that this only applies to customers who purchase the new AI conferencing and messaging add-on for $10 per user per month. The company says the feature will be available in June, and the add-on can be added to “Selected” workspace plans.
Finally, “AI Security” is selecting the Workspace plan as a $10 add-on. Google says the feature will allow IT teams to protect sensitive files across the company in Drive. AI Security does feature Google’s AI software. Artificial intelligence is said to continuously evaluate, classify and protect files for users.
AI security now available to Workspace users (April 9).
