Google’s Find My Device network has launched its first AirTag-style tracker for Android phones, giving users the long-awaited ability to locate lost items. Chipolo and Pebblebee offer tag and card-like trackers that leverage network Bluetooth proximity data from millions of Android devices around the world to enable precise tracking through the Find My Device app. Users can find their items on the map, and if they are nearby, a sound or LED flash will be triggered.
Chipolo’s Single Point Tracker ($28) for key and card point trackers ($35) is splash-resistant and quickly connects to Android phones with quick pairing. The first batch of Chipolo trackers has sold out, with the next batch scheduled to ship on June 10. Pebblebee’s Clip ($30) for keys, cards ($30) for wallets, and tags ($35), whose rechargeable battery lasts up to eight months, is available for pre-order.
These trackers mark the beginning of device compatibility with the Find My Device network. Eufy Smart Track Link and Smart Tag Card will all be supported, as well as Sony and JBL headphones – notably absent from the lineup is Tile, a pioneer in smartphone-based trackers that has been delayed from being manufactured for the web tracker, instead focusing on a broader range of location-based solutions.
Address privacy concerns with unwanted tracking alerts on Android and iOS devices, designed to reduce potential abuse. As the Find My Device network expands, Android users can expect more and more tracker options to ensure they can easily monitor their belongings.
