Samsung has announced that its Galaxy AI software and features will soon receive support for more languages.
According to a press release, Samsung is preparing to expand the number of languages (and dialects) supported by Galaxy AI this spring. Galaxy AI already supports 13 languages, but Samsung says Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian will soon become options for users more familiar with those languages.
Additionally, the Korean OEM plans to incorporate Australian English, Cantonese, and Canadian French into the dialect aspects of Galaxy AI.
Although no exact date was given, Samsung is interested in expanding its services further with support for Romanian, Turkish, Dutch, Swedish, Traditional Chinese, and European Portuguese. The company says users should see these languages coming “later this year.”
In a subsequent newsroom post, Samsung president and mobile division chief TM Roh said the company is “committed to democratizing mobile AI for everyone; Galaxy AI’s language expansion this year will enable more Galaxy users The scale of crossing language barriers at Samsung is unique.”
What’s curious, however, is that Samsung has apparently teased other devices equipped with Galaxy AI capabilities. After reiterating that it currently has some devices, the company added that “more will be coming soon.”
As Samsung emphasized, its added language support will help users using features such as real-time translation, chat assistance, note-taking assistance, and more. Many of these features were rolled out to several previous-generation devices via the One UI 6.1 update at the end of March. The Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Fold 5 and Tab S9 series are among the devices eligible for the update.
The phones and tablets also get Google’s “Circle to Search” feature, which allows users to conduct web searches for anything from anywhere on their phone.
It makes sense for Samsung to release teasers of Galaxy AI on more devices, as the Galaxy S22 series will likely appear on that list. The company’s TM Roh spoke briefly on the matter, saying that the brand is “reviewing” the series to see if the Galaxy AI feature can work properly on the S22 series. The glaring issue is how dependent Galaxy AI is on the device’s hardware.
Still, Roh seems somewhat confident that this can be done — but we’ll have to wait and see. As for what else can be added – the waiting game continues!
