8 ways ChatGPT Plus is better than Gemini Advanced and Copilot Pro

Main points

  • I’ve used ChatGPT Plus extensively over the past few months.
  • I’ve also used Gemini Advanced and Microsoft Copilot Pro.
  • ChatGPT Plus offers better content and takes privacy seriously.

In the artificial intelligence race, OpenAI is one of the first companies to start with its chatbot ChatGPT. But over the next year, Google and Microsoft quickly launched their own AI platforms. Now, ChatGPT Plus, Gemini Advanced and Copilot Pro are the three giants in the field of artificial intelligence.

After trying all three platforms, I found there are nuances to each, which clearly shows that the best AI subscription depends exactly on what you need to use it for. Gemini creates the best content on the first try, with Copilot being faster and offering more content in its free tier. ChatGPT Plus is also not integrated into productivity applications like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. However, ChatGPT’s long history still brings some clear advantages.

The answer to the question of which chatbot is best still depends on the type of work you want AI to handle for you. But these eight key features are where ChatGPT’s long history gives it a distinct advantage.

1 ChatGPT Plus is often the first to launch new features

Will new competition change that?

Screenshot of ChatGPT

ChatGPT had been running for nearly a year before Microsoft Copilot launched, and about four months before Bard (now known as Gemini) went public. The company’s long history with artificial intelligence sometimes means it’s the first with new features.

This is especially true for Copilot because it uses training data from OpenAI. ChatGPT Plus received GPT-4 Turbo in March 2023. It won’t appear in Copilot until Microsoft launches the Pro subscription in January 2024. There is one important difference between Copilot Pro and ChatGPT Plus, though, and that is that Microsoft provides access to GPT-4 Turbo in its free tier, while ChatGPT uses the older GPT 3.5 for non-subscribers.

Unlike Copilot, Google’s Gemini uses the company’s native training data. Gemini’s young history doesn’t provide much context on which platform will launch new features first in the future. However, increased competition may help push ChatGPT to offer more features. However, in the competition for resources, as a larger company, Google may have more resources to devote to Gemini.

2 ChatGPT Plus has more art features

Clear advantages of working with GPT-4 and DALL-E manufacturers

OpenAI created ChatGPT (text generator) and DALL-E (image generator), so it’s no surprise that a ChatGPT Plus subscription includes access to both programs. While image generation isn’t unique to ChatGPT, subscribers do find some advantages compared to the competition.

Currently, Gemini Advanced does not create images of people. Google’s AI also refuses to create graphics that contain both images and text. This gives ChatGPT Plus a clear advantage. But if you’ve never used either platform, it’s less obvious that Gemini’s refusal to take an image is one of the most ridiculous results on ChatGPT. Human faces and hands are often distorted to horror movie levels. Even if you tell it exactly what to write in the image, the text will often be misspelled or make no sense. Still, in some cases you can get decent results from ChatGPT that Gemini can’t. For example, ChatGPT Plus can generate solid images containing figures from genres with more obscure details, such as watercolor paintings.

Copilot will use DALLE-3 to generate images, just like ChatGPT Plus. But despite sharing similar training data, Copilot Pro still struggled with basic instructions. It fails to follow the aspect ratio and styling requested in the original prompt. This may be partly because Copilot has built-in editing tools that can change these parameters after the fact. However, the whole point of AI is to work quickly, so the likelihood of ChatGPT getting the results right first is a significant advantage.

Beyond ChatGPT, 5 Exciting AI Tools Worth Trying

The potential of this new generation of artificial intelligence is limitless. Here are a few tools—besides ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini—that are currently using it in interesting ways.

3 ChatGPT Plus refuses to copy artist style

Gemini Advanced and Copilot Pro have no such doubts

Screenshot of ChatGPT

Generative AI is trained on data, often scraped from the web, a process that has fueled longstanding debates about the ethics of using written content and art without the creator’s permission. While all three platforms use data from around the web, an ethical step in the right direction is that ChatGPT Plus refuses to copy the artist’s style. (Note, however, that ChatGPT places no such restrictions on author style.)

When asked to create art in the style of a specific living artist, ChatGPT Plus often responds with “Because I can’t directly copy the work of an artist like that” [name], my goal was to produce a conceptual piece that conveys the essence of his style rather than imitating it. There’s a workaround – you can ask ChatGPT to describe the artist’s style and then use those words in the image generation prompts. Still, these limitations go further than Gemini Advanced and Copilot Pro, both of which can easily create Images of a particular artist’s style.

4 ChatGPT Plus lets you delete data every 30 days

Gemini Advanced retains some data for up to three years

The data you feed into any AI platform is not secret. Sensitive data should not be entered into any AI generator. But when privacy is paramount, ChatGPT Plus automatically deletes your chat data every 30 days. When chat history is disabled, OpenAI’s subscriptions will not use the past 30 days of user input for training.

Gemini also has tools for removing content, including automatically scheduling removals. However, some tips are randomly selected for human review. These conversations are not deleted along with the rest of the data and can be retained for up to three years.

Because Copilot Pro uses training data from OpenAI, Microsoft doesn’t actually use the input for training. However, deleting data is a manual process, and this step will also clear your Bing search history.

5 ChatGPT Plus has rich GPT and extensions

Helps make up for the lack of productivity app integration

As the older of the three platforms, ChatGPT has several different GPTs that can use AI in different ways. These variants are tailored for specific tasks, which means they tend to produce better results than using ChatGPT alone. The different GPTs available can help with anything from conducting research to building code. Many of these GPTs are integrated into third-party applications. For example, you can use Kayak to plan a trip. Or, since ChatGPT Plus doesn’t handle text-based graphics well, you can use Adobe Express or Canva integration to find templates to help you turn your design ideas into reality.

Likewise, ChatGPT also supports a variety of extensions, from adding a chatbot to a web browser to having GPT-4 take notes for you in a virtual meeting.

Neither Gemini nor Copilot offer GPT in the same way. Instead, the strength of both programs lies in their integration with the parent company’s other software. Gemini is built into apps like Gmail and Google Docs in Google Workspace, while Copilot is built into Microsoft 365.

6 The writing effect of ChatGPT Plus is better than Copilot Pro

But it’s more verbose and no better than Gemini Advanced.

Screenshot of ChatGPT

Since both ChatGPT Plus and Copilot Pro use GPT-4 Turbo, I expected the two platforms to have similar writing capabilities. But that’s not what I found. Where Copilot feels more like a first draft, ChatGPT’s writing feels more polished on the first try. The biggest caveat with ChatGPT is that it feels a bit verbose; I found better results when I put a word limit on it.

However, I can’t say the same for Geminis. Compared to ChatGPT, Gemini Advanced’s writing feels cleaner, with less passive voice and more description. Gemini is rumored to include data from Google Books in its training. While Google hasn’t revealed whether this is true, I suspect it’s based on the text that artificial intelligence is capable of generating.

7 ChatGPT Plus Make More Suggestions

Being too talkative can be an advantage

Screenshot of ChatGPT

Sometimes, there are benefits to being verbose. When I asked all three chatbots for suggestions, ChatGPT Plus tended to give more generous tips. OpenAI’s platform tends to include more suggestions unless I ask for a specific number of ideas.

ChatGPT is also sometimes less frustrating when it comes to finding specific data. While it doesn’t always use the Bing plugin to extract data that occurs after training is complete, ChatGPT can give a more direct answer. For example, when I asked about the number of moon landings, ChatGPT immediately told me the answer, while Gemini Advanced explained that it was a complicated question due to differences such as manned and unmanned moon landings.

8 ChatGPT Plus has no built-in ads

or use your input for advertising

chatgpt-feature-008

I expected ads to appear when using the free version of the software. But the web version of Copilot Pro integrates ads into nearly every response, even with a subscription. For example, when I ask to generate an image, it inserts an ad for stock photography below the results. ChatGPT Plus (and Gemini Advanced) do not integrate advertising into the chatbot.
