Fallout Lucy

Amazon

In the first episode of Amazon’s Fallout TV series, we meet Lucy, a new character who’s not in the Fallout games. She’s kind of like the character you play in the game.

She was selling herself to a group of higher-ups at the shelter and making the case for marrying a man from another shelter. It looks like she’s just listing her skills – like she’s good at fighting, using weapons, and even doing gymnastics. But if you’ve played Fallout before, this moment feels a lot like when you start a new game and choose your character’s skills and attributes using a special system (you know, you choose between Strength, Perception, Stamina, Charisma, Intelligence Assign points), agility and luck).

Lucy’s journey in this episode also blends the beginnings of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. In Fallout 3, your character grows up in a shelter and then must leave to find their father in the wild, harsh world outside. At the beginning of Fallout 4, you search for your kidnapped son after raiders attack your safe haven.

In the play, Lucy ends up bravely searching the wasteland for her father, who was taken away by attackers.

2 arms

One of the strangest weapons in Fallout is here

radiation weapons

Amazon

One of the best parts of Fallout video games is the weapons, and the series wastes no time showing off one of the strangest weapons in the Fallout universe, the Junk Jet appearing near the end of the first episode. You’ll notice an unnamed guard being impaled on the doll’s arm before the show cuts to a smoking junk jet. Fans of the game will recognize it as a cannon that you load up on random junk found in the wasteland and shoot it at your enemies.

But that’s not all, as almost every gun in the game has been lovingly recreated. These include pipe pistols, laser and plasma weapons, and the classic 10mm pistol, one of the first guns players discover in a Fallout game.

3 faction

What’s a wasteland without a few cults?

Brotherhood of Steel

Amazon

Fallout’s wasteland setting feels so alive because of the people and factions you encounter as you explore. From naive Vault dwellers to hardcore Brotherhood of Steel fanatics, the random characters and factions in the wasteland are the best part of the game and help capture the humor and tragedy that exist in the world. The Prime Video series really captures this part of the Fallout franchise.

The naive innocence of the Vault dwellers and Brotherhood of Steel followers we met with Lucy and Maximus in the first episode may have been stripped away from recent Fallout games, but as the show begins to introduce more It’s most noticeable when there are many characters from the wasteland. The first person Lucy meets after leaving the shelter is a wastelander wearing plastic bag underwear, trying to use a water purifier to turn sand into water. While the game is meant to be funny, their dialogue perfectly brings Lucy into the world and lets players know they’re in a familiar setting.

Atomic Age Meets Nuclear Wasteland

environment

Amazon

The Fallout games have a fantastic atomic age aesthetic. The show takes place in a universe where transistors were never developed, hampering the development of computers and leading to more advancements in fields like nuclear technology and robotics. This plunges American society into a weird, futuristic version of the 1950s before the outbreak of nuclear war in 2077.

You can see the challenge this adaptation poses for Amazon: Imagine a live-action version of The Jetsons set against the backdrop of a nuclear disaster. Fortunately, Amazon backed the Brinks truck with a $153 million budget, which series creator Jonathan Nolan used to perfectly capture the world of the Fallout video games. From the first scenes of pre-war life before the atomic bomb, to Lucy’s life in the Vault, to the wider, grimy world of the wasteland, the Fallout series looks better and more like Fallout Electronics Games, even more than the most enthusiastic “Fallout”. Fans can just imagine.

5 comics and books

It’s always good to read more

Walton Goggins

Amazon

Players will definitely recognize the comics and books scattered throughout the Fallout series. In the game, players can find comics and books throughout the wasteland and read them to gain skills. So you could read something like Gnarak the Barbarian to improve your melee combat skills, or Tesla Science Magazine to improve your science skills. Both magazines appear in the series, for eagle-eyed viewers to spot Walton Goggin’s character Ghoul reading Tesla Magazine.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until Fallout Season 2 if we want to see a character reading “The Tale of the Jerky Vendor in Junktown.”

Lost in love

One of the best moments in the first episode of the Fallout series is when we first see the Needle, the Fallout universe’s version of a universal medical device. Lucy used a stinger after being stabbed by an attacker who invaded Vault 33. For a moment, the stinger seemed to heal her puncture wound, just like in the Fallout games, but not long after We see she needs stitches.

The creators spent as much time recreating Fallout’s medicinal world as they did the other details of the universe. They seem to know this too, as they like to keep the camera lingering on the irritants, as if they’re saying to the audience, “Don’t these look like they’re from the game?” We also see that some of the drugs in the wasteland are essentially The game plays a role in enhancing strength. In the first episode, an attacker uses Jet (a drug in Fallout 4 that slows down time) before tripping and being crushed to death by a closing door. We’re also seeing more drugs like RadAway in the series.

Fallout companion

Amazon

If you’ve ever played a Bethesda game, you’ll be familiar with the practice of having NPC companion characters carry all the extra stuff you don’t have room for. This is the first time we’ve seen this done in live action, with Maximus (Aaron Clifton Morton) forced to carry around the gear of Titus’s Knight, a man the size of Maximus Pretty much the same duffel bag. We can see weapons hanging in several places.

When the knight Titus sends Maximus to inspect a dark, scary room, he has a classic encounter with his companions.

radioactive animals

One of the scary things about the Fallout series is that you have to fight mutated creatures in the apocalypse. There’s no shortage of people like this on the Fallout show. We see Yokai, the Fallout universe’s version of the mutated furbolg. But this monster is not alone, we also see cockroaches, brahmins and devourers.

We also see some robots scattered throughout the wasteland. Earlier, we saw a destroyed Assaultron robot, one of the more difficult enemies in the game. There’s also a terrifying version of Mr. Handy, voiced by Matt Berry, who performs organ harvesting for a gang of bandits.

The best Fallout companion is getting a live-action version soon

Radiated dog meat

Amazon

Dogmeat is one of a handful of characters to appear in multiple Fallout games, serving as a German Shepherd companion to the player. He made his debut in the first Fallout game, but more versions of Dogmeat appeared in Fallout 2, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4. So naturally the Prime Video version of Fallout needs its own version of man’s best friend to deal with the apocalypse.

We see this in the form of a puppy who almost narrowly escapes death, with the help of an Enclave scientist named Wilziger (Michael Emerson). The dog didn’t get his trademarked name until much later, but you can think of him as a character appearing in the Fallout video game.
