“After we finish die, we knew we wanted to do something completely different. Instead of doing something massive and ongoing, Gillen told io9 in an emailed statement, he wanted to do something smaller, more intimate, more independent, and more pure. “So, during the COVID-19 lockdown, I was alone with my cats, staring at them, staring at me, thinking about the wonder of the relationship between creatures of completely different intelligences, and the wonder of jumping across that gap. After that, Images of wild girls and giants in disaster soon appeared and we were off.”
that image becomes we call them giants, a new standalone original graphic novel, which reunites Gillen and Hans at Image Comics and collaborates with writer Clayton Cowles. The comic tells the story of a young girl named Lori, who wakes up one day to find that the world has suddenly become much emptier than it should be, while the remaining humans struggle to survive, fighting each other. Just before the terrifyingly beautiful creature suddenly appears, Lori’s life takes another turn.
“People are going to fall in love and have their hearts broken—the complete Hans/Gillen experience,” Gillen continued. “Even though the story is set in the post-apocalypse, it has an almost eerie allegorical vibe to it that essentially ends with a conversation. this The Walking Dead and iron giant. basically, we call them giants It tells the story of communication across the divide at the end of the world. Stephanie has been seen working on an ongoing comic every month. Here, it’s exciting to see her create this single feature-length story with such luxury and be able to shape the entire story into a single canvas of poignancy, romance, and destruction. “
